Word from the president
September is already upon us. For the past several days or weeks, all education professionals have been hard at work to ensure the success of this back-to-school season—one that finally feels normal—and to make it is as inspiring as possible for all students in Quebec.
For the FPPE, the year is already well underway, and all the elected officials and staff are prepared to face the many challenges that lie ahead. First, the provincial election campaign is taking shape. We will actively campaign, along with the political staff of the FPPE, to ensure that the various parties take a stand on the issues that matter to you: education, financing of professional services, state of infrastructures, etc. During this campaign, we encourage you to be attentive to the various proposals that will be made and to exercise your democratic rights based on your heart and your values.
In a context in which living costs are rising, public sector bargaining is also getting underway. In September, you will be asked to express your opinion on the development of two consultation documents: the Common Front (salary, retirement, parental rights, and regional disparities), and our FPPE recommendations booklet.
We will put forward solutions to improve your daily lives and the conditions under which you provide essential services to Quebec students. The bargaining team for this round is experienced and aware that public sector professionals are rightly demanding better conditions. It will take on this battle with a deep sense of legitimacy. The demands of the union must be submitted to governments by October 31.
This year, the FPPE will continue to be present for its partners and take part in the many ministerial tables and committees. We want to have an impact on all the issues that concern you. In particular, we are monitoring the progress with respect to the overhaul of the financing of services offered to SHSMLD. We will be urging the government to clarify its intentions.
Finally, as we head back to school, our legal team is, as usual, raring to go and will make sure that your rights are respected. It is with kindness and enthusiasm that they will support you, along with your union presidents and delegates, in all the labour relation challenges that may come your way.
At the FPPE, we’re here with you, and for you!
We’re changing the world one student at a time.
Welcome back to school!
Jacques Landry, President, FPPE(CSQ)
